Technology has brought in a lot of changes in our day to day lives, which cannot be ignored. It has made the processes faster, without compromising on the quality of services. Similarly, the education sector has also been affected by the advent of technology.

Training and educating the upcoming or the 21st century generation has become a difficult task not only for their parents but also the educators. Teaching, which was never an easy profession, has become even more complex.  The demands of a current generation student are very high. So, the teachers have to be proactive and well verse with technology.

Here are some of the essential qualities required in a 21st Century Teacher:

Commitment towards Students

Among all the qualities, having professional knowledge of the subject is considered very important.  Nowadays, having just the basic knowledge of the topic or the subject is not considered sufficient.  A teacher should be aware of its commitment level with the students. Professional knowledge is the awareness of the commitment she/he/has with the students. Teachers should be aware about the consequences it can have on the students and should try to portray themselves as potential role models for them.

Instructional Effectiveness

The most important aspect between teacher-student relationships is the effectiveness of the instructions provided by the teachers. An effective teacher is one who can teach well, has a versatile way of teaching ability to teach well and precision over his/her methodology. The instructions need to be clear and to the mark. It should have diversity but at the same time should not be too complex to understand.

Communication Skills

Another important quality of an efficient teacher is having good communication skills. It does not take a lot of time to understand about the level of communication skills of the teacher. The information spreads rapidly among the staff members and students and a particular image is formed about the teacher.

The body language is also an important factor when it comes to judging a teacher’s communication skills. An ideal teacher is anything but hostile with the students and every teacher’s door should be open for a student’s doubts and queries. These factors are essential for personality development of students.

Moving out of the Shell

An ideal teacher for the diverse current generation is one who is not limited to constraints and is willing to go out of the box to get things done. They should put in extra effort to make the students feel comfortable and understand the true nuances of education. They should also be well aware of the student’s psychology, in order to resolve any possible conflicts.

Willingness to learn

Teaching is a long-standing process. Every teacher learns gradually over time and evolves not only as an educator, but also as a person. Along with the students, it’s a learning curve for the teachers as well. Good teachers are always in search of the activities that help them in their professional development.
