History & Facts

  • Moscow State University was established in 1755. Home to more than 4000 international students hailing from more than 100 different nationalities. 
  • One of the oldest universities in Russia, and part of ‘Stalin’s seven sisters’. The university comprises of more than 5000 rooms and has one of the tallest buildings outside the US.
  • The university has produced more than 30 Nobel Laureates and other Field Medal Winners. 


University Highlights

  • Although, all courses at the university are taught in Russian, however, special language courses are offered to international students at theMSU Centre of International Studies, so as to make them familiar with Russian language.
  • The university has 39 faculties, covering virtually all areas of research, except engineering, however, the strongest faculties within the university are natural sciences and mathematics.
  • The academic year at MSU starts in September and ends in June.

Location and Transport

  • Most of the faculties,since 1953, have been situated on Sparrow Hills, located in the southwest of Moscow. 
  • The campus comprises of more than 1000 buildings and it is connected with modern transportation amenities like metro, rail network, buses, and taxis. 
  • Due to the presence of a strong international community and India’s friendly tie with the Russian federation, the living conditions are peaceful and safe. 


Student Facilities & Unions

  • The main university building comprises of a concert hall, a theatre, museum, administrative services, library, swimming pool, police station, post office, laundry, hairdresser, several canteens, bank offices and ATMs, shops, and cafeterias. 
  • The MSU has one of the largest libraries in Russia, stocked with 9-million books, 2-million of them in foreign languages.
  • International students are allowed to seek part-time work although the university does not help students find a job and the average student wage in Moscow varies around $5-7 per hour. 
  • Also, the university has a strong student union comprising of more than 15000 full time members.
