Introduction

History and Facts

  • Founded with a papal concession in 1472 by Duke Ludwig the Wealthy of Bavaria-Landshut, Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich was Bavaria's first university. Presently the university is ranked amongst the oldest and best German universities. 
  • It was selected as “University of Excellence” in 2006 and in 2013 was named amongst the top 20 universities by the QS University rankings survey. 
  • Presently the university is home to more than 50,000 students comprising of both undergraduates and graduates.

  • Most courses offered by the university are taught in German therefore proof of adequate knowledge of the German language is mandatory for admission.
  • International students will need to submit all university and secondary school grade transcripts and certificates to the International Office at the university.
