The WBJEE Chairman, in a recent interaction with the media, announced the dates for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination 2016 for engineering and medical. The exam, as per the board, will be held on May 17, 2016. The exam duration will be a whopping “eight and half hour.” As much as 45000 students are expected to appear for the exam. Earlier, the exam was organized only on weekends; however, the board, for the first time, chose to conduct the exam on a weekday. The decision was taken to avoid clash with popular competitive examinations like CLAT, JEE (Advance), and AIPMT.
Dasgupta, the Chairman of the WBJEE said, "Nearly 300 educational institutions need to be engaged to conduct WBJEE 2016 throughout the state. So many centres may not be available due to the Assembly polls that could be held anytime between April 1 and May 15. These centres will then be required for the poll process. Hence, we had no option but to select a weekday. Since schools will have to be blocked, we did not want to inconvenience students for two days.”
The Biological Science exam will be a 2.30-hour affair, followed by a paper of Physics and Chemistry, which will be a 2-hour exam. Further, the mathematics exam will be a 2-hour long ordeal, taking the exam tally to over 7 hours. The WBJEE board has decided to reduce the number of questions because of the test pressure. Incidentally, engineering and medical JEE were held on the same day from 2010 to 2013 but always on a weekend.
